Man United have completed their first summer signing: When will they make the announcement?
According to Football Insider, Manchester United have made their first signing of the summer transfer season in the shape of Tom Heaton from Aston Villa.
Heaton is a Manchester United youth product who, following a series of loan appearances, left the club on a free transfer in 2010. He joined Aston Villa from Burnley in the summer of 2019, but the 35-year-old is yet to make an impression at Villa Park this season.
He will be a free agent this month, and Fabrizio Romano recently reported that the shot-stopper is on his way back to Manchester United.
“Tom Heaton will have his physical and sign as a new Manchester United player in the coming weeks, the transaction is ‘done and completed,’” he posted on Twitter.
Contract expires in June 2023, with a one-year extension option. “All right, here we go.”
With a ‘Here we go’ already in place, we anticipated Man United to announce the acquisition of Tom Heaton this week, but Football Insider claims that even if all sides have agreed on the move, the Old Trafford team will wait until next month to make things official.
According to the article, “Manchester United have completed the acquisition of Tom Heaton from Aston Villa, but he will not be introduced until July 1st, Football Insider has learned.”
“A United insider told Football Insider that the transaction was completed last month, but Heaton’s physical will not take place until later in June.”
Heaton is likely to have offered a player-coach job during his second tenure at the club, therefore he is unlikely to make any first-team matches in the coming seasons. During the 2020-21 Premier League 2 season, the 35-year-old made only four appearances.
